ANTI-BULLYING POLICY
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
What is bullying?
Bullying is when people are hurtful on purpose. It is not just hitting or kicking. It can be calling names, making racist or anti-gay comments or even spreading rumours.
Why does Silverdale School need a policy?
All schools should have a policy. Bullying can make children very unhappy. It can stop them from learning and even make them ill. At Silverdale we want everyone to feel secure and valued. We want everyone to be able to do the best they can. We expect everyone to show respect and consideration to others. Bullying is not acceptable at Silverdale.
What does the policy mean?
At Silverdale School we want students to tell a member of staff if they are bullied. The school will then take action to find out what is happening and stop it happening. We will be backing this up by teaching Year 7 students about bullying and by staff training. Telephone help-line numbers will also be put up in the school.
What can you do to help stop bullying?
If you think your child is being bullied or is bullying someone else, tell the suggested contact. Help your child not to bully by encouraging them to respect and care for others. If the school takes actions because your child is bullying we hope that you will be able to support the school’s actions, as well as trying to help your child. Let your child know that bullying is never OK.
What if you think the school has been unfair?
The school will keep clear accurate records about bullying and action taken. If you are not happy with the way school staff have handled a situation you should write or speak to the Headteacher. If the matter is not resolved you should make a formal written complaint to the Chair of Governors.
If you want to know more?
Please contact the school if you would like a copy of the anti-bullying policy. If you have any questions, contact your child’s Key Stage or Year Leader or a Senior Member of Staff.
