Entry Requirements : Grade C or above in English and Grade C or above in Mathematics.
Course Content :
AS
Unit 1 :Cognitive psychology, looking at memory and eye witness testimony. Developmental psychology, how young children interact with carers and research methods.
Unit 2 : The body’s response to stress and the reduction of stress, abnormal behaviour, social psychology, conformity obedience.
A2
Unit 3 : Three specially selected areas likely to be perception, eating behaviour and sleep.
Unit 4 : Abnormal psychology and research methods in practice along with a psychological discussion of a contemporary issue.
Assessment :
AS examinations are 1 ½ hour and consist of structured response questions. Students will sit two exams. One in January, one in June.
A2 examinations are one 1 ½ hour and one 2 hour paper.
Coursework :
There is no coursework in this subject.
Progression :
A degree course in Psychology prepares students for a variety of jobs in areas, including business, education and health. Many psychology graduates continue further training to become clinical, educational, occupational or criminal psychologists.
