Course Content :
AS
Rivers, Floods & Management : Landforms, flooding, how rivers work and river conservation.
Cold Environments : Glaciation and glacial landforms, exploration of the Arctic/Antarctic, sustainable development of cold environments.
Population Change : Global and national population changes, impact of migration and differing population structures on countries and localities.
Health Issues : Global and regional patterns of health, infectious diseases, pharmaceutical industries in a globalised economy.

Plate Tectonics & Associated Hazards : The causes and impacts of volcanoes and earthquakes. Hazard management.
Weather, Climate & Associated Hazards : The climate of the UK, urban microclimates, tropical climates and hurricanes. Climate change.
Development & Globalisation : Patterns and processes linked to different global levels of development, including geography of conflict.
Fieldwork Investigation : Undertake a piece of investigation fieldwork which includes the presentation and interpretation of the collected data.
Assessment :
There are a total of 4 examinations (2 in Y12 & 2 in Y13). These exams cover both the topic areas in the course and an assessment of the student’s fieldwork skills.
Fieldwork : 3-4 days residential fieldtrip to Snowdonia in November 2010 for AS exams. 1 day in June/July 2011 for A2 fieldwork investigation.
