AS Course Module Outlines :
Unit 1 : Aspects of Narrative : Texts for 2011 - The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini; Pride & Prejudice Jane Austen; Hardy and C. Rossetti – poetry selections; and the Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Unit 2 : Dramatic Genres : Texts for 2011 - Hamlet by William Shakespeare and Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller ; or a Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams.
A2 Course Module Outlines :
Unit 3 : Texts and Genres : Doctor Faustus – Christopher Marlowe, Dracula – Bram Stoker & The Bloody Chamber – Angela Carter.
Unit 4 : Further & Independent Reading : Comparison of any 2 texts (to be decided) and application of a pre released Critical Anthology to a literary text.
Assessment :
Examinations : (60% total)
Examinations will take place at the end of the first year of study in unit 1 leading to the AS qualification. Unit 3 will be examined at the end of the second year.
Coursework : (40% total)
Unit 2 – Dramatic Genres (2 pieces 1200 – 1500 words each) to be submitted at the end of the first year of study.
Unit 4 – Further and Independent Reading (2 pieces one 1500 – 2000 words and one 1200 – 1500 words) to be submitted in the second year of study.
Progression :
A higher or further education course in English or communications. Careers in journalism, teaching, media, public relations, broadcasting.
