Design and Technology: Product Design

Entry Requirements : Grade C in GCSE Design & Technology.
Course Content :
Year 1 : F521 Advanced Innovation Challenge : There is a design challenge assessing candidates ability to design and model a product and then reflect on their design concept.
Year 1 : F522 Product Study : This is a coursework unit. It consists of product analysis and product development, prototype modelling and testing.
Year 2 : F523 Design, Make and Evaluate : Candidates are required to design and make a major project.
Year 2 : F524 Product Design Exam : A theory and design based exam.
Assessment :
The Product Study module is assessed in January. It is internally assessed and externally moderated.
The Innovation Challenge Module is also internally assessed and externally moderated. Both these units lead to the AS qualification. The remaining modules are assessed at the end of the second year of study and lead to the full A level qualification.
Coursework :
Product study in the AS year, major project in the A2 year.
