About Business & Economics
The aims of the Business & Economics department are to:
- Provide a stimulating educational experience.
- Business and Economics education will allow students to appreciate and evaluate the consequences for stakeholders of the subject.
- Be fully inclusive and monitor and reward student progress on an added value basis.
- Build and develop positive and respectful relationships between staff, students and parents.
- Develop specific and transferable skills for use in their future lives.
The department teaches the Edexcel GCSE Business Studies & Economics and Edexcel Applied Business GCSE in Key Stage 4. In Key Stage 5, students are taught the Edxecel Nuffield Business & Economics A level Course.
The Business & Economics Department is based in rooms B105 and B106.
Curriculum
KS4
GCSE students study the Edexcel Business & Economics Syllabus. The course is assessed by exams in Y11 and a controlled assessment at the end of Y10.
Applied GCSE students study the Edexcel Single A Word Syllabus.
During Y10, students undertake controlled assessment for Unit 1. Unit 2 is taught during Y11 and examined in June.
KS5
Edexecel, Nuffield Economics and Business syllabus is followed. To be accepted onto a Business & Economics AS course, students must have obtained at least 5 grades A-C including English and Maths. In Business & Economics, students are entered for January Modules in Year 12 and June examinations are used for both year groups.
Homework
For KS4 the vast majority of homework tasks are exam skills. If homework is not submitted students are required to attend an hours detention to complete the work that is missing.KS5 tasks vary between coursework and exam based tasks, dependant upon the demands of the curriculum.
Tasks are marked and attainment efforts indicated. Suggestions for improvements to work are made to aid future development.

For all students there are support sessions run at lunchtimes and after school for students to drop in on an individual basis for any help needed.
In addition Y12 students volunteer to take part in a Fantasy Share Race run in conjunction with The Sheffield Telegraph and Rensburg.
