About RE

Unlike the other main subjects the RE curriculum is decided by the local authority. RE helps pupils make sense of the world they live in with special referene to the spiritual dimension. RE is concerned with helping students mature in sensitivitiy to this aspect of human experience  and to appreciate a religious understanding of like and what it means to be religiously committed.

At Silverdale we study 3 main religions : Christianity, Islam and Judaism plus Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism.  We also mention Bahai, Jain, Zoroastrianism as well as Humanism.

There are three teachers in the department, and all teach across KS3 and KS4. The teaching takes place in C210 classroom.

Curriculum

KS3

In KS3 the pupils study Christianity, Islam and Judaism looking at all aspects of practicing these religions and use Bahai, Jain, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Humanism to illustrate the faiths of the world.

KS4

In KS4 all pupils study RE to GCSE taking the Edexcel course (Religion and Society in Y10 and Religion & Life in Y11).

Homework is set according to school policy. Each pupil receives one, one hour lesson once a week and each lesson has a homework. Tasks vary from newspaper reports, story boards, opinion or finding out in books or on the computer.
