About PSHE

The PSHE curriculum aims to provide planned opportunities for our students to be actively involved in a variety of learning experiences that will explore their attitudes and values and develop their knowledge and skills that will enable them to become happy and healthy members of society.

The values and principles that you think are important for PSHE at Silverdale are:

  • To raise young people’s self-esteem
  • To enable young people to make positive, healthy choices
  • To develop care and respect
  • To develop self confidence
  • To help young people become aware of their own values and attitudes towards personal, social and health issues
  • To develop personal skills

At Silverdale PSHE happens in all areas of school life. This is during lessons, in social times, through the pastoral system and is central to the school’s ethos.

The timetabled one hour session is a valuable part of the PSHE provision at Silverdale. The personal and social development programme has been planned taking into account the views of students, staff and other key people.

Curriculum

In PSHE lessons, as part of the careers programme, a Y7 World of Work convention is offered.  In KS3 Enterprise activities are also offered.

There are core areas within the PSHE programme and additional topics that will address the needs and priorities of the students in key stage 3 and 4. The outcomes of PSHE are for students to develop effective relationships, learn to keep safe, learn to respect the differences between people, develop self awareness, develop independence and responsibility, play an active role in society and to make the most of their abilities.

Anti-bullying work is part of the curriculum in all Key Stages.  The Y7 Residential is prepared for.

Extra-Curricular Activites

Outside agencies provide safety awareness programmes.
