Mrs J Waller - Learning Resource Centre Co-ordinator
Pupil Librarians from Y8 – Y13

About the LRC

The aim of the LRC is to provide resources to support teaching and learning throughout the school.

Resources include books covering KS3-KS5 courses, a large fiction section, DVDs and videos, journals and daily newspapers and computers with Internet access.

The LRC also aims to provide space to study, research and relax, plus displays to inform and inspire.

LRC activities such as library induction lessons for Y7, information skills lessons for Y12, quizzesand author visits to encourage reading for pleasure to take place throughout the school year.

Pupil librarians form an essential part of the LRC staffing. They run the issue desk at breaks and lunchtimes, give advice and help to readers and help to choose and process new books. Many take part in the SCBA (see below)

The LRC subscribes to the Sheffield Schools Library Service (SLS), which offers books supplementary to the LRC stock, display materials, advice and organises meetings for all school librarians.

SPYDUS LRC Catalogue

The LRC catalogue is on the MLE.  All resources in the LRC can be searched for on the site.  This means that all pupils, staff and parents can access it from any computer in school or at home.  Borrowers are also able to access their library accounts from this site.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Ecclesall Library

There’s plenty to do at your local library. Look up your favourite authors amongst the many fiction and factual books. Choose a graphic novel or select from our large Manga collection. There’s free computer access, homework help and a range of other activities including our two bookgroups, Bookchat (yr 7-9) and Booktalk (yr 10-13).

Drop in, or call on 203 7222.

The Sheffield Children’s Book Award

This is awarded annually to the new fiction title judged by Sheffield pupils to be the best of a shortlist of six novels.

Our pupils take part in the Longer Novels category, reading, judging and voting for their favourite.

We are invited to the Awards Ceremony where we discover the winner and meet the authors.
