The Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme has presented Sheffield with the opportunity for a significant capital investment in its secondary school estate. Sheffield City Council, in conjunction with their delivery partners have been successfully developing and delivering this investment in buildings and ICT (Information and Communications Technology) for the past 4 years and will continue to do so up to final completion of the programme, currently scheduled for 2013. This is an exciting and inspirational programme and is based on a strategic Partnership between all sections of the educational community.
The capital investment programme in Sheffield has been split into two main phases, plus ICT only schools. Through the programme, all schools will receive investment in ICT services and equipment, with Phase 1 and 2 schools also receiving funding for rebuilding and refurbishment.
The Building and refurbishment programme aims to replace and/or upgrade the facilities and environment in which secondary education is delivered in Sheffield; while the investment in ICT development aims to deliver an exciting vision for e-Learning. In conjunction with this, the ICT solution across the estate is central to the of learning and the value of capital investment in this element alone amounts to circa £40 million over the life of the programme, making it the largest ICT capital investment ever made by SCC.
